Meningitis Vaccine are HALAL (From Italy and China)

MUI's PRESS CONFERENCE : ITALY & CHINA Meningitis Vaccine are HALAL

After LPPOM MUI's Auditor Team to conduct auditing three companies halal meningitis vaccine (for prospective pilgrims and Umrah), the MUI Fatwa Commission finally issued the fatwa for the three producers.

Three companies that produce vaccines are:
1. Glaxo Smith Kline Belgium, audited May 20-21, 2010
2. Novartis Vaccine and Diagnotis Srl Italy, audited May 17-19 May 2010
3. Tianjuan Zheiyiang China, audited June 28-29, 2010


According to the halal certification procedure, the aspect which is audited materials, processes, production facilities and systems. Similar to other microbial products, the critical point shirk this vaccine product lies in the possibility of growth media in contact with materials derived from pigs or contaminated with a product that is contaminated with unclean pigs (mutannajis). If the audit results proved the media is in contact with materials containing or contaminated pigs unclean pig, then that product stated as unlawful or haram. Vice versa.


For the three manufacturers mentioned above, the Fatwa Commission has determined the halalness status of meningitis vaccine as follows:

1. Meningitis vaccine manufactured by Glaxo Smith Kline MENCEVAX ACYW 135 Belgian brands, stated HARAM.

2. Meningitis vaccine manufactured by Novartis Vaccine and Diagnotis Srl Italy brand MENVEO meningococcal Group A, C, W135 and Y Vaccine Cnnyugate, stated HALAL.

3. Meningitis vaccine manufactured by China's Tianjuan Zheiyiang MEVAC ACYW 135 brands, stated HALAL.

The companies that stated as HALAL, halal certificates to be issued will be valid until the next two years from the issuance of halal certificates. In addition, the company has an obligation to implement the Halal Assurance System to maintain consistency halalness the meningitis vaccine product.
